At Paws of the Pines Rescue, we are a foster-based rescue, meaning all of our animals are cared for in loving homes rather than in a traditional kennel or shelter setting. We believe this environment helps our animals adjust more comfortably and helps us better understand their personalities.

Adoption Process:

  • Submit an Adoption Application

To begin, you will need to fill out an adoption application for the animal(s) you’re interested in. Please note: You must have an approved application on file to meet any animals outside of adoption events. This ensures we’re all on the same page regarding your readiness and commitment to adopt.

  • Meet & Greet with the Foster

Once your application is approved, our foster will reach out to coordinate a meet and greet with the animal you're interested in. This is an important step to get to know the animal in person and ask any questions you may have. Our fosters know their animals best and will provide valuable insight to help guide the decision-making process. We highly value their feedback, as they know the animal's personality, quirks, and needs.

  • Trial Period (2 Weeks)

If the meet and greet goes well, you will enter a two-week trial period. This time is essential for you to determine if the animal is the right fit for your home, lifestyle, and family dynamics. We understand that sometimes things don’t work out, and we do not fault you if the match isn’t ideal.

However, we strongly recommend you allow the animal at least 3 days to decompress. Many of our animals come from shelters or have been surrendered, so they may be stressed or confused by the change in their environment. With your help, they can settle in and begin to feel comfortable.

  • Finalizing the Adoption

Once you’ve decided that the animal is the right fit for your home, the adoption process can be completed digitally. Our adopters will receive a text from our rescue system with a link to finalize the adoption. This will include the adoption contract, payment processing for the adoption fee, and any additional information you may need. While we encourage you to take the full two-week trial period to ensure it’s the right match, you have the option to complete the adoption at any time during this period.

Please note, our adoption fees are non-refundable, so we recommend taking your time to make sure both you and the animal are comfortable before finalizing the process.
